NHS stands accused of starving patients

THE NHS was last night accused of starving patients.
Shock figures show a record-breaking 185,000 left hospital last year suffering from malnutrition.
The number of starved patients has rocketed from 75,431 to 185,446 over the last 12 years - a 146 PER CENT increase.

And the problem is getting worse. The number of malnourished patients shot up 18 per cent last year alone - the biggest annual hike in more than a decade. The figures show that just over 175,000 patients went INTO hospital last year with malnutrition.
But 185,446 patients left with malnutrition - meaning an extra 10,443 developed problems while on the wards.

Anyone else see this article? One of these hospitals serves the area where I currently work and, unfortunately, I'm not surprised by this revelation

If irish hospitals are anything to go by im not surprised, the "meals" are what id consider a snack, 1 small meat portion, small portion of veg and small portion of spuds (in most cases 1 scoop of "mash") now obviously this differs depending on the meal etc but its nowhere near enough, even the high protein or high energy meals arnt any bigger.

Granted when youre not well you have a reduced appetite in some cases, but in others its essential people are properly nourished and in some cases weight gain is promoted. Penny pinching but playing with peoples lives, which in the end costs them more money due to readmission for NG feeds etc
